About Us

In 1991 Michael S Stratton decided to leave his career in the grocery business to pursue his dream of owning his own business. After acquiring a friendship with the then owner of State St Hardware (Olin Tremont) he jumped at the opportunity to purchase Olin’s second store that was located in the Washington St Plaza on the south side of Watertown.

Stratton Hardware Ltd was established that November. Michael’s son (Michael H Stratton) was managing All Star Sports Center which was only 2 doors down the plaza at the time while also helping out after hours at the hardware store.

Within the next year Michael H left the Sports Center to work full time for his father.

Rapidly outgrowing the size of the plaza location, the duo set their sights on the old fire station adjacent to the plaza that the City of Watertown was not using & offering up for sale.

In November of 1996 they were awarded the winning bid & the following spring they moved into their current location at 1336 Washington St where they have been providing quality goods & impeccable customer service ever since.
